An award-winning journalist, she has reported in conflict and post-conflict zones in the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia and the Sahel. She has extensively covered women’s rights issues and is particularly interested in how national and regional geopolitics affects the lives of women. Leela began her journalism career in Mumbai, India, before moving to New York, where she worked for ABC News. Her work has appeared in Foreign Policy, The Boston Globe and The Nation.
