Poetry is the earliest and most quintessential form of literary expression. To recognise the importance of poetry in the world of literature, the Tata Literature Live! The Mumbai Litfest names a Poet Laureate for the Festival each year.
This year’s Poet Laureate is Adil Jussawalla, one of India’s most eminent and influential poets in English. He is a renowned for his many-layered, insightful poetry and the historical breadth and sweep of his compositions.
Previous Poet Laureates of the Litfest include Javed Akhtar, K. Satchidanandan, Jayanta Mahapatra, Gulzar, Keki Daruwalla, Vikram Seth, Joy Goswami.
Adil Jussawalla is one of India’s leading poets. He is a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Award, conferred by India’s National Academy of Letters on writers of the most outstanding books of literary merit.
