Poetry is arguably the most vibrant contemporary literary form in Marathi today, judged by the quantity and quality of output, the range of subjects and stylistic innovations. The poems in this session reveal diverse preoccupations, from women’s issues to rural life and urban angst. They also reflect a variety of styles: some use the language of Marathi modernism, others use a regional dialect, and yet others are postmodern in tone, seamlessly incorporating words from Mumbai Hindi and English.
